Professional History

Matt graduated with undergraduate degrees in physics and religion and began working at a church of nearly 3,500 attendees. Over the years he held a variety of roles within the church as a Children’s Pastor, Teaching Pastor and more while he worked to complete his Master’s in Theology.

Matt then moved to the local YMCA, taking the position as their first chaplain and he began to pursue coaching as a full-time profession, becoming a Gallup Certified Coach.

Favorite Books

Nine Lies About Work by Marcus Buckingham

This book is so straightforward and databased, it’s a little scary. I think it is absolutely a must read for anyone who works with and manages people.

The Cost of Discipleship by Dietrich Bonhoeffer

This is my favorite personal book, as I find it incredibly impactful. Bonhoeffer only wrote 2 1/2 books before he died in Germany at a concentration camp in World War II while living out his Christian convictions. He was never trying to be famous and his book takes on a whole new meaning after you understand his convictions.

Professional History

With an extensive hospitality background, I served as Vice President of Talent and Organizational Capabilities at White Lodging, a hotel property management company, leading Talent Development, Talent Acquisition, Engagement and Culture.

I led hotel operations at Wynn Las Vegas, as well as other executive level positions there during my 12 year tenure. I worked on the Customer Experience team at United Airlines as Director of Service Solutions, implementing service strategies to airport operations, in flight, and pilots.

As Vice President of Talent and Organizational Capabilities at White Lodging, I was able to introduce strengths coaching as a leadership development tool to all company leaders, as well as brought the company to the Gallup Great Workplace Award winner status three consecutive years by implementing a company-wide engagement strategy.

Favorite Book

The Power of Moments by Chip and Dan Heath

The brothers do a great job using compelling storytelling to show how the power of high and low moments can change experiences and create long lasting memories.

I read this book when I was working on creating luxury service in the hospitality industry and it really spoke to me as creating long lasting memorable moments is such a vital component of a luxury experience.

Favorite Books

Primal Leadership by Daniel Goleman, Richard Boyatzis, & Annie McKee

One of the reasons I like this book is because it reinforces my belief that leadership is not completely a cognitive function, it is mostly emotional, and learning leadership is done in the emotional (limbic) part of the brain and not the cortex (executive brain).

I also like 100 Things Every Presenter Needs to Know about People by Susan Weinschenk. As a social psychologist, she has provided insight into how people think and learn, are influenced, are motivated to action, and how they react to their environment.
